The AU Senior Vice President for Research, Kimberly Andrews Espysaid in an email to university staff that a nationwide search for Martinez’s replacement will be conducted later this year. AU museums are under the auspices of Espy’s office; she was out of town and not available for comment.

Martinez’s tenure at the internationally renowned center started on a rocky note. Shortly after her arrival, she fired the CCP board, which was made up of people from all over the country with expertise in photography and fundraising.

“I knew a number of people on this board,” said Terry etherton, owner of the Etherton Gallery and recognized expert in fine art photography.

“I understand when you’re new and want to bring your own people, but the way she did it has alienated people. They received a form letter saying that we need people on the board who can find more money. … What he created were people who resented the center.
